Group Lessons

Our timetabled group lessons enable you to progress through our structured skill level system with other participants of the same ability. These lessons are not run as courses, you just pick and choose from the timetable your next lesson at your required skill level. You can pay as you go or purchase a block or lessons credits and use these to book. There is a maximum of 10 participants on each group lesson (1-4). To be eligible for Open Practice, a beginner would need to complete level 4. As everyone progresses at a different pace, it is possible a certain lesson may need to be repeated.

Tots Group Lessons

Our group lesson timetable for Tots aged 4-7, enables your child to progress through our structured skill level system with other participants of the same ability. There is a maximum of 6 pupils on each class. These lessons are not run as courses so there is no obligation to commit to coming to us every week you work this around your diary and the timetable. You can also purchase a block of 3 Tots lesson credits.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a good form of learning for those that wish to progress quickly or just want a re-assessment of their ability. More than one person can take part in a private lesson we just ask that the participants are at the same skill level. Shorter 30 minutes sessions are available for Tots skiers (4 – 7 years).  Private lessons are available at times to suit so long as we have an instructor free at that time.

Family can be either 2 adults + 2 children, or 1 adult + 3 children or 4 children.

Everyone must be at the same skill level to get the most out of the lesson as we would teach to the lowest common denominator, in terms of ability.

Complete Beginners

  • Location: Teaching Slope
  • Become familiar with the ski equipment: Learn how to walk and slide on a flat surface.
  • Progression to walking and sliding down a slope: Able to side step up our teaching slope and slide back down.
  • Awareness of the Ski code: Learn the basics behind the ski code.

Developing Snowplough

  • Location: Teaching Slope
  • Snowplough glide: Be able to glide down the slope slowly using a Snowplough to control your speed.
  • Snowplough brake: Be able to stop halfway down the slope using the Snowplough.
  • Straight run to snowplough stop: Be able to schuss down the hill and bring yourself to a stop using a Snowplough.

Introduction to Turning

  • Location: Teaching Slope / Exit One Main Slope
  • Snowplough turning exercises: Be able to do make small directional changes on the way down the slope staying in a Snowplough.
  • Snowplough turn in and out of the fall line: Be able to make controlled turns in both directions maintaining control using a Snowplough.
  • Use of lift: Be able to use a drag lift unaided.

Linking Turns

  • Location: Exit two & three
  • Linked snowplough turns: Be able to make continuous smooth turns at various speeds
  • Linked plough turns – varied radius & control of speed: Be able to control plough turns on varied terrain

Basic & Plough Swings

  • Location: Exit three +
  • Basic plough parallel: Ploughing around the corner and matching skis after the fall-line.
  • Plough parallel: Progressively matching skis earlier in the fall-line.

Learning to Parallel Turn

  • Location: Exit three +
  • Basic parallel turn: Be able to perform controlled S-shaped turns down the slope with lots of skid keeping the skis parallel throughout the turn.
  • Parallel turns – long radius: Be able to do wide controlled parallel turns using the entire slope, whilst still maintaining control of speed.

Improving your Technique

  • Location: Exit three +
  • Parallel turns – short radius: Be able to perform parallel turns down a narrow run whilst still maintaining control.
  • Carving: Be able to hold a carving motion down the slope by using the edge of the skis.

Frequently Answered Questions

Q: What should I wear?

A: To take part in a ski or snowboard lesson you must have long sleeves, long trousers and gloves.

Q: Can I bring my own equipment?

A: You are more than welcome, however due to the nature of dry slope skiing and snowboarding wear and tear is increased so we recommend that you save your kit for the mountains and use ours on our slopes..

Q: Do I need to wear a helmet?

A: Helmets are required to be worn for those aged 16 and under. We provide a rental helmet in this situation If you wanted to use your own helmet you can do. Anyone taking part in ski race training, events  or freestyle snowsports must wear a helmet. 

Q: How early should I arrive for my lesson?

A: If you could be on site at least 15 minutes before the session start time, that will allow you enough time to get kitted out and ready.

Q: What is the minimum age for skiing/snowboarding?

A: We can take children as young as 4 years and up for skiing and children from 9 years and up for snowboarding.

Q: What surface do you have?

A: We use diamond matting on our 200m main slope and teaching slope

Q: How many lessons will I need to become open practice standard?

A: We generally say between 4-6 hours is required for an adult or junior. A younger person may take slightly longer.
